How Does Mewing Affect the Eyes?

We know that mewing can enhance your face by giving you prominent cheekbones, a sharper chin, cheek hollows, etc. Mewing also affects the eyes, though it can take a really long time to see changes.

Mewing moves your midface up, so most people notice that they get deep-set and/or hooded eyes over time. Mewing also improves the tilt of the eyes and can help improve the look of bulgy eyes.

Will Mewing Help Me Get More Attractive Eyes?

When you mew, you are applying an upward force to your palate. The force helps your maxilla, cheekbones, etc. move upward. Mewing moves your midface forward and upward, which includes your eyes. Mewing can change the way your eyes look.

Mewing does not change your eyeball itself. It changes the structure around it. So if you have bulging eyes or very large eyes, it can help you get deep-set and smaller eyes. Deep-set eyes are generally more attractive, especially for men.

Your eyes get more deep-set into your skull as your midface moves forward and up. It will also make your eyes more vertically compact. In some cases, people can get more almond-shaped eyes, too. Additionally, it can help make your eyes wider as it gets more vertically compact.

Since your midface moved up, it will support the fat/skin under your eyelid. It will also help decrease or eliminate the appearance of circles and eye bags because the skin now has more support.

If you are not happy with how visible the whites of your eyes are, then mewing can help. Since mewing can make your eyes more compact, it will reduce scleral show.

Take Youtuber AstroSky, for example:

When he was younger, he had very round and wide eyes. His eyes became wider and more compact after several years of mewing. He got “hunter eyes,” and it reduced the amount of visible sclera.

What Are Hunter Eyes?

Hunter-eyes are deep-set eyes and have a positive canthal tilt. They are also vertically narrow and straight.

Sean O’Pry is an excellent example of a man with hunter eyes.

Hunter eyes sit far back in the skull. The orientation of your many orbit bones will help determine how far back your eyes will sit.

Mostly it is genetic. However, mewing can help you get hunter eyes, especially if you consistently mew for several years. For more info on how to get hunter eyes, check out our article.

Does Mewing Help Change The Way Your Eyes Look?

Many people assume that our facial bones stop moving and growing after puberty. While the majority of growth does stop after puberty, the face naturally changes over time. So, your eyes can change in appearance as well.

Bones change over time, and that’s a fact. The bones change in function, shape, etc. with age, according to Boskey et al., 2010. Take this photo of an aging skull as an example.

Mewing can work for people of all ages. It is most effective in younger people since their bones are more malleable. But it can still work for adults, particularly if they mew consistently for many years.

Take a look at this animation. It shows how different the facial structure looks when you have forward and upward growth.

Mewing Effects

Most people have droopy-looking eyes when they are recessed. Droopy eyes are also common in older people.

When you mew, your midface goes up while expanding your maxilla and sphenoid bone. You can counteract droopy eyes with mewing.

Mewing is an excellent way to decrease upper eyelid exposure and decrease how much “white” is exposed. There is no surgery that you can get to have deep-set eyes. Therefore, mewing is worth a shot, especially since most people have seen great results.

Canthal Tilt

Canthal tilt is the orientation of the lateral canthus of the eye to the medial canthus. In the image below, the eye on the left has a positive canthal tilt, while the eye on the right has a negative canthal tilt (which is unattractive).

Canthal Tilt

Mewing can improve canthal tilt. The maxilla and zygomatic bone will move up, making the lateral canthus higher. However, the nasal bone and other bones around the medial section of the eye roughly stay the same. This is because of the direction of the force exerted by the tongue.

How the Swallowing Technique Affects Your Eyes

As mentioned earlier, you apply an upward force on your palate when you mew to achieve upward and forward growth. Mewing focuses on proper tongue posture and proper swallowing technique, which will be vital in helping you enhance your eyes.

What Is the Proper Way to Swallow?

One of the basics of mewing is proper tongue posture, but proper swallowing technique often gets overlooked. Here is a quick guide to help you learn how to swallow correctly to achieve better-looking eyes.

When you swallow, firmly press your tongue on your palate while you keep your lips closed. Make sure you do not use your cheeks. Your facial expression should stay the same. You will also notice that your thyroid cartilage rises when you swallow correctly.

Does Mewing Improve Vision?

No, mewing does not improve vision. Mewing can change the structure around your eye, but not the eyeball itself.

The cornea of the eye should be round. If the cornea has an oval, cone, etc. shape, it can cause weak and blurry vision.

Your vision also gets determined by many factors like genetics, refractive errors, etc. A common example of a refractive error people have when they have poor eyesight is astigmatism (Read et al., 2011).

Mewing will not be able to correct poor vision. Mewing can make your eyes appear more deep-set and help you achieve “hunter eyes.” However, mewing will not be able to change your cornea’s shape or correct any damage to your eyes.

Conclusion

Mewing can change the appearance of your eyes. It can make them look more deep-set, more compact, and even decrease the appearance of eye bags and circles. While it may take a few years to see results, it is worth trying since you cannot get surgery to have deep-set eyes.
