How to Get Fuller Lips for Guys

Is there a way to get nicer lips for guys naturally? Yes, depending on how far you’re willing to go.

The best ways to get fuller lips for a man are:

  • Exfoliate
  • Moisturize
  • Drink Water
  • Start Mewing
  • Use lipstick (subtly)
  • Use Plumping Agents
  • Get Fillers
  • Get Implants or a Fat Injection

But why would you want bigger lips as a dude? Simple. It’s basically a sign of dominance and masculinity. Think of the random thug meathead. The image that might come to mind is a dude with big lips. Many male models have large lips (girls want kissable lips too). On top of that, guys are getting fillers now to achieve this “macho mouth” look:

You don’t necessarily have to resort to plastic surgery, as you want to maintain a more natural look as a guy. Let’s start with the easiest steps and work our way up.

Exfoliate

To exfoliate means to brush with a rough surface to scrape the dead skin cells off your skin, thereby promoting the growth of new skin cells. People do this to their face to make it appear radiant, but it also works on the lips. The less dead skin cells are on your lips, and the more vibrant your lips appear, the more they will stand out.

Using a toothbrush with coconut oil combined with sugar works well for this, but you can also purchase a lip scrub off Amazon.

Moisturize

When your lips get dry, tiny cracks start to appear, and this shrinks your lips. Moisturizing will also make your lips appear vibrant (and not dead). Usually, a lip exfoliator and moisturizer come together. But I like to use petroleum jelly on my lips to lock in moisture and keep them from chapping. Keep in mind that most chapsticks have drying agents like hyaluronic acid and glycerin, which is designed to get you to keep using the product. Regular old cheap petroleum jelly is one of the best skin protectants and is all you should use on your lips.

However, some dermatologists (and me) think that excessive moisturizing leads your skin to lose the ability to moisturize itself. That’s not to say you shouldn’t do it, but get ready to be remarkably consistent about it. You can’t miss a day and have to keep moisturizing for life.

Drink Water

Applying stuff externally to your skin isn’t the only way to moisturize. Drink a bunch of water to moisturize internally. This is going to plump up your whole body really (it’s literally water weight), but it will be noticeable in your lips.

Mewing

Mewing is little more than proper tongue posture, and, to a lesser extent, just overall proper body posture. To learn more about it, check out my Ultimate Mewing Guide. Mewing is most useful for children, as it makes the face develop correctly when the bones are still malleable. It makes the maxilla grow forward and upwards, lifting your face and giving your lips support. Mewing allows your lips to reach their highest genetic potential. When the opposite happens, due to mouthbreathing, the mandible and maxilla sink. This gives the appearance of a long face and stretches the muscles/skin that supports the lips.

When people mew for a long time, one of the main things that improve is the nasolabial angle, as seen below:

mewing philtrum

This improvement is because the teeth are pushing forward on the lips. After all, the maxilla sits higher. The teeth bulge your lips out, making them more prominent. Unfortunately, for adults, this takes years, if not decades. It’s a very long term strategy.

Lipstick

Darker shades give the appearance of bigger lips. Anything you can do to get redder lips will make them appear more prominent. Obviously, as a dude, you’re not going to want to slather on lipstick. But maybe consider having some in your toolbox so that you can dab on a tiny amount in a pinch. Otherwise, find other ways to get redder lips, like exfoliating or moisturizing.

Natural Plumping Agents

Certain oils like peppermint oil or cinnamon oil will naturally plump your lips. Honey works as well. You can also try commercial lip plumper. Apply petroleum jelly first before you try any of these plumping oils, though. They plump your lips by inflaming them, which isn’t always healthy, and you’re going to need petroleum jelly for the protection it provides your lips.

Exercises

Lip exercises increase muscle tone and bring more blood to the lips. Lip exercises will make your lips look bigger and possibly increase collagen production. The upside of this is that your lips will be completely natural. The downside is that you need to exercise every day, and you might lose your gains if you ever stop. Some exercises you can try are:

  • Make a pouting/kissing motion as hard as you can. Hold for 10 seconds. Repeat for 5 minutes.
  • Push against your lips with your two fingers and try to fight back with your lips. Hold for 10 seconds. Repeat for 5 minutes.
  • Take a sucker and try to crush it with your lips. Hold for 10 seconds. Repeat for 5 minutes.

Obviously, these exercises are incredibly time-consuming but have the potential to get you the best natural results. The other downside is that this is for life, so it boils down to how much free time you have.

Fillers

Lip fillers are the ultimate solution to thin lips. Kylie Jenner is the prime example of what a difference successful lip fillers can make. As a guy, however, you want to be more subtle. Start with a conservative amount. You can always go back and add more filler, but having to dissolve the filler is much harder in comparison. Make sure you get hyaluronic acid in your fillers as it can be dissolved, is found in the body naturally, and increases collagen production.

The only downside to fillers is the cost and the fact that you have to keep injecting them.

Implants & Fat Injection

Yes, they do have permanent options for plumping lips: you can have actual lip implants, and you can also inject fat into your lips. These forms of plastic surgery are permanent (though fat injections might need occasional touch-ups). The implant isn’t going to be soft and won’t look great when you get older. And the fat injection might also look weird later on as your face and lips change as you age. I recommend just go with the fillers, really if you get anything.

Conclusion

If you have irredeemably thin lips, I just suggest getting the fillers. Otherwise, if you’re graced with full lips, take advantage of them by exfoliating and moisturizing. If you take away at least one tip from this article, though, just make sure you start using petroleum jelly.
